Michael started racing at the age of 8 years old in GP junior go karts. Since then he has progressed through the ranks of karting, winning a number of championships along the way.

In the year 2001, he was given the opportunity to make the step to main circuit and was offered a saloon car to race at the Aldo Scribante circuit. On his debut, he won and set a new lap record in his class.

As a result of his good performance on debut, he was spotted by well known racing driver, Terry Moss and became a member, as a racing driver, of the Engen Terry Moss Racing Team on a full time basis in 2002.

After winning the Engen Volkswagen South African Championship in 2004, he progressed to racing an Audi 3.2l V6 Quattro in Production Cars Class A, the premier motor racing formula in SA.

Michael finished 3rd in the production car championship in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

Michael became South African Champion in Production Cars Class A in 2011 in his Engen Xtreme Audi S4, going on to win in 2012 and 2013, making history as this was the first time it was achieved in Production Cars.

Michael finished runner up in 2014 and 2015 with the championship fight going down to the final round.

In 2016 Michael competed in the new GTC formula as well as the DD2 Masters National Karting Championship. Michael went on to win both championships, making history in becoming the first Global Touring Car champion in its inaugural year, with some dominating performances. Michael repeated wins in both championships in 2017.

Michael has also competed in a number of International events, including Kart World Championships (Best result 3rd), 25hr Endurance race at Spa Franchorchamps, VW Polo Cup Driver Exchange Program, as well as competing in ¾ of a season in the single Formula Volkswagen category in Germany”.
