Michael Stephen is a multiple South African motorsport champion, who currently participates in the Bridgestone Production Car Championship.
Motorsport has always been a passion, Michael won his first karting race at the tender age of 8 and has never looked back collecting championships along the way.
He currently has
- 11 Eastern Province Championships
- 7 Regional Eastern Cape and Border Championships
- 6 National Karting Championships
- 1 South African Saloon Car Championship, Engen Volkswagen Cup
- Finished 3rd in the International World Karting Championships.
Michael received his Eastern Province Motorsport Colours in 1992.
In 2003, he received South African Protea Colours as a result local and international success.
Michael has won the victor ladorum on a number of occasions and has also been selected as Sportsman of the Year at the Algoa Motorsprt Club.
All of his karting achievements paid off, when Michael was invited to race in the Formula Volkswagen Championship in Germany in 2002. Michael's best position was sixth overall. He has also competed in the 25 hour endurance race at Spa Francorchamps and competed in one round of the German Polo Cup Series, as a part of a VW driver exchange program.
Then Michael took on the Engen Volkswagen Cup challenge and finished 3rd in the 2003 championship and came back a year later to win his first South African Saloon Car Championship.
Up against the country's best, Michael now races in the Brigestone Production Car Championship.
He achieved two very hard earned race wins and finished fourth overall in the 2007 championship.
In 2008 he achieved:
- 1st in Super Rok Karting Champs
- 3rd in FVW
- 3rd in Production cars Class A
- 5th in World Karting Championships
In 2009 Michael only competed in the Production Car Championship.
- 3rd Overall in Production Car Class A
- 3 wins
- 9 podiums
- 2 pole positions
- 6 podium qualifying positions
- 5 Overall Podiums
- 1 Fastest lap
Michael would like to make special thanks to Terry Moss Racing, Engen, Audi, and Southern Sun for a great 2009 season. Also a huge thanks to the entire team, the mechanics, drivers and supporters for an excellent 2009.
Michael has already started preparing for the 2010 Production Car Championship and is aiming to win the 2010 Class A Championship.
