Following his race win at Kyalami a month
ago, Michael Stephen is confident going into round six of the
Bridgestone Production Car Championship to be held at Zwartkops on 15
August 2009.
Michael has finished on the podium five times this
season and has taken 2 race wins, but this has not been enough to move
him to the top of the championship standings. Michael currently lies
fifth, 16 points behind championship leader, Johan Fourie. With 25
points up for grab at each event, the title is far from decided.
“”We
have fought back hard over the past few races and have closed the gap
to the championship leader, after an unfortunate start to the season.
We are all feeling exuberant following our win at Kyalami and can only
go from strength to strength from this turning point,” noted Michael.
During the 5 week break, the team has once again put in a tremendous
effort to improve certain areas of the car, giving me a good
opportunity to bring home another race win.
Zwartkops in its
layout of tight corners and a fairly long back straight is very similar
to Michael’s home track – Aldo Scribante (Port Elizabeth). It is
therefore no surprise that Michael is always quick at the Pretoria West
circuit. Also working in Michael’s favour is the fact that Zwartkops
plays to Audi’s quattro strength.
“The four-wheel drive cars are
quick around Zwartkops, however I do expect a strong challenge from
both the Nissans and BMW as this track is their home circuit. I enjoy
the circuit and will be going out looking for the race win and maximum
points,” commented Michael.
Practice sessions will take place on Friday afternoon, with both races and qualifying on Saturday 15 August.
