Round five of the Bridgestone Production
Car Championship is set to take place at Kyalami on 27 June 2009 and
Michael Stephen is ready for the challenge that awaits him and his team.
Michael
has, during the course of the 2009 season, taken one race win and three
podium finishes. These results have left him fifth in the Class A
championship standings. The championship is however so hotly contested
that Michael is just nine points behind second placed Johan Fourie and
with 25 points up for grabs on each race day, Michael is still in a
good position to challenge for the 2009 title.
The previous
Kyalami race can only be described as disastrous by Michael’s
standards, after technical gremlins crept in to destroy what would have
been a great result. Although this result can not be altered and is
well behind him, it will serve to further motivate him into going all
out for the race win.
Whilst that doesn’t sound terribly
complicated, Michael will be working against the odds. Firstly, Kyalami
as a circuit tends to favour the rear wheel drive vehicles. Secondly,
the rolling starts for both races serve to eliminate the Audi’s amazing
quattro system off the start line and finally, Michael’s success thus
far has earned him a fair amount of additional success ballast.
Despite
these factors, Michael remains confident that he will be able to race
at the front of the pack and challenge for a race victory.
“The
best race win is one that is hard fought and whilst this race won’t be
an easy one, I am not one to resort to negativity. My car is running
well and I will be going out to claim as many championship points as I
can. Motorsport is about passion and never giving up and I race with
that philosophy,” commented Michael.
The race is sure to be a
thrilling one. Qualifying and both races will take place on Saturday 27
June 2009 and Michael looks forward to meeting his fans in the pit
complex.
