The next round of the Bridgestone
Production Car Championship will take place in East London on 6 June
2009. As part of the Engen Xtreme team, Michael Stephen is feeling
confident of a good showing at the event.
Michael’s last event
in Cape Town was bittersweet. He finished strongly in third place in
the first race at Killarney, but an accident in the second heat
hindered his progress to another good finish.
The good news is
that Michael will be racing in East London on base weight. Running
lighter than the other competitors will not only give him a straight
line advantage, but will also mean that there will be less wear on his
Audi’s tyres and brakes.
With all these racing elements working
in his favour, Michael will hoping that history will repeat itself this
year, following his double victory at the picturesque venue in 2008.
“I
definitely rate the East London Grand Prix circuit as one of my
favourites. I think that being consistently quick down the long
straight and through the tight infield is the key to victory,” remarked
Michael. “Although Anthony Taylor in the BMW has been very quick all
season, he will be carrying a huge amount of success ballast and I
don’t think he will be prominent in the race. To win in East London,
the driver and car package needs to be optimized and after the effort
put in by the team after Cape Town, I know we have that package.
Qualifying
and both races will take place on Saturday 6 June 2009 and Michael
looks forward to meeting his fans in the pit complex.
