The next round of the Bridgestone
Production Car Championship is set to take place at Cape Town’s
Killarney circuit on 9 May 2009 and Michael Stephen is ready to take up
the challenge.
After a disappointing weekend at Kyalami five
weeks ago, Michael remains positive and is optimistic about his chances
of race victory in Cape Town.
“I can only describe the Kyalami
weekend as disastrous. Unfortunately, the technical maladies that my
Audi suffered where beyond my control and I had to try to make the best
of a bad situation. This is racing, it doesn’t always go your way, but
that is behind me now and I will be going for the race win at
Killarney,” commented Michael.
Every cloud has a silver lining
and for Michael, his Kyalami results mean that he will not be carrying
any handicap ballast. At a circuit that traditionally suits the Nissan
350Zs and to a certain extent the Audi A4, this will work to Michael’s
advantage.
Michael had the following to say about his race
weight, “Having a relatively lighter car allows you to carry more speed
into the corners and reduces the wear on brakes and tyres. Most of the
current championship challengers are well above their base weights,
hopefully giving me an opportunity to outpace them.”
Both of the
day’s races will take place from rolling starts. Although this
eliminates the Audi’s brilliant standing start capabilities, Michael
has always been quick at Killarney and is expected to challenge for the
race wins.
Qualifying and both races will take place on Saturday
9 May, ensuring fans a full day of racing excitement. Michael looks
forward to meeting his fans in the Killarney pits.
